The Downtowner 55 Goldie model embodies all the foundational elements Charlie has relied on for over 20 years in his songwriting, soloing, and live performances around the world. Drawing from a blend of unique specifications inspired by select vintage instruments, we’ve incorporated our cherished stock of aged timbers, chambered construction, custom-spec Echopark pickups, vintage-modified wiring, and a non-plasticized aged nitrocellulose lacquer finish. In 2014, we set out to craft a Downtowner tailored specifically to his voice—an instrument that could stand alongside, and even surpass, the best of his vintage collection. The result is a newly built vintage-grade guitar that exceeds exacting standards. It’s sonically powerful, acoustically resonant, effortlessly playable, and delivers a tonal spectrum that bridges the gap—like a missing link—to the iconic sounds of the 1950s, yet built for today.
